However, combining\u2014or nesting\u2014functions allows you to take advantage of more than one function&#8217;s capabilities at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<section class=\"emaki-custom-block emaki-custom-note\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<div class=\"emaki-custom note\" id=\"custom_block_1\">\n<div class=\"custom_block-content note\">\n<p>This article covers both legacy and modern Excel functions, all of which are available in <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/excel.office.com\/\">Excel for the web<\/a> or Excel for Microsoft 365. If you&#8217;re using an older version of Excel, you may not be able to access some of the functions.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<h2 id=\"index-with-xmatch-perform-versatile-lookups\">\n            <span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span><br \/>\n        <span><br \/>\n                            INDEX With XMATCH: Perform Versatile Lookups<br \/>\n                    <\/span><br \/>\n       <\/h2>\n<p>One of Excel&#8217;s most-used and best-loved function pairings has long been INDEX with MATCH. However, combining INDEX with XMATCH, the modern-day version of its less versatile predecessor, gives you even more options.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the INDEX function extracts a value from a dataset, with the XMATCH function serving as the navigator to the correct row and\/or column. However, sometimes, you might need to input more than one condition, and this is where the AND and OR functions can help.<\/p>\n<p>The syntax for IF is as follows:<\/p>\n<pre>=IF(<em>a<\/em>,<em>b<\/em>,<em>c<\/em>)<\/pre>\n<p>where<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n                                        <em>a<\/em> is the logical test (the cell or cells you want to evaluate, and the condition you want to set),\n                        <\/li>\n<li>\n                                        <em>b<\/em> is the value to return if the condition is met, and\n                        <\/li>\n<li>\n                                        <em>c<\/em> is the value to return if the condition is not met.\n                        <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this example, typing:<\/p>\n<pre>=IF((@ExpYears)&gt;5,\"Y\",\"N\")<\/pre>\n<p>into cell C2 tests whether employee A has more than five years&#8217; experience, returning &#8220;Y&#8221; if they do, or &#8220;N&#8221; if they don&#8217;t.
