Doom has been ported to Nintendo Alarmo Clock

Playing classic Doom is a rite of passage for anything with circuits these days. When Nintendo Alarmo was released, some thought when would someone be able to play Doom on it, and now it has happened.

GaryOderNichts on GitHub ran Doom on Nintendo Alarmo. In a video, the device is shown playing Doom on its small screen, controlled only by the watch’s top buttons. The person who created this mod mentions that audio support is currently disabled, and that the .wad file needs to be compressed and then decompressed to external memory upon boot to bypass USB bootloader memory size limitations. However, it is also possible to run the entire game via USB, without needing to modify Alarmo at all.

The full code and documentation for this is Currently available on GitHub If this is something you want to try on your Alarmo device. However, just like 90% of mods that run Doom, it’s probably not practical to play Doom seriously for that matter. Instead, as mentioned, it’s a rite of passage of sorts – if there’s even the remotest possibility that the device will be modified, someone will run Doom on it. We’ve run Doom on calculators, refrigerators, washing machines, and even pregnancy tests.

This also makes us wonder how adjustable the Alarmo really is. Other mods we’ve seen include someone getting an Alarmo device Show cat pictures. There’s not much you can do in terms of more powerful stuff, because according to the comments in this particular post, it has a decent CPU for its hardware class but a very low amount of RAM. It’s good that Doom plays better than most PCs today, so we’re definitely excited to see what comes next.
